Alain Robbe-Grillet a déposé l'ensemble de ses archives à l'IMEC, en 1998. De ce dépôt sont nés un certain nombre de projets, dont une grande exposition, accompagnée d'un catalogue, et l'édition d'un recueil rassemblant divers textes théoriques et entretiens parus entre 1947 et 2001, Le Voyageur. Ces objets témoignent de la vivacité de l'œuvre, mais aussi de la dynamique induite par l'entreprise de valorisation des archives, dont le traitement ne saurait se limiter à la simple conservation ; plus surprenant, le récit de leur mise en place est l'occasion d'observer le rapport très particulier d'un auteur à ses archives, soit à son passé, dans une entreprise qui met en jeu l'image de l'écrivain, le contrôle de l'œuvre et l'anticipation de la postérité.

Alain Robbe-Grillet deposited the bulk ol his archives at the IMEC (Institute memories of contemporary edition) in 1998. This donation was the starting point of a number of projects, among which an important exhibition including a catalogue and the publishing of a book gathering miscellaneous theoretical texts and interviews, released between 1947 and 2001, The Traveller. These objects give evidence of the liveliness of his work and of the dynamics induced by the enterprise to enhance the value of archives, the treatment of which does not consist of mere preservation; more surprisingly, the account of their organization is an opportunity to observe the very peculiar relationship between an author and his archives, that-is-to-say his past, in a venture where the writer's image, the control over his work and the anticipation of his posterity are at stake.
