Last year, on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, the UnitedNations launched the UNITE! Activism to End Violence against Women & Girls campaign. In thispresentation, we will explore ‚Artivism‘ – a powerful fusion of art and activism – as a means tochallenge the patriarchal system. We will examine how Central American women artists likeMaria Adela Díaz, Regina José Galindo, and Lia Vallejo have harnessed various forms of artisticexpression to provoke thought, reshape public perceptions, and raise social consciousness. Our hypothesis is that Artivism serves as a potent weapon for dismantling the patriarchal system and a fnely honed tool to expand our collective imagination and build a more inclusive world. Throughout this discussion, we‘ll provide evidence and insights to support this hypothesis, ultimately aiming to inspire change and expand our understanding of the role of art in activism.
