La plupart des travaux concernant les patronages catholiques évoque la présence active d’une section basket-ball. Néanmoins, aucun n’explique les circonstances d’adoption de cette pratique physique d’origine protestante américaine par la FGSPF (Fédération Gymnastique et Sportive des Patronages de France). A partir d’un travail d’archives original, un nouvel éclairage est apporté à la compréhension d’une liasse de correspondance déjà exploitée par Fabien Grœninger, 2003. Il s’agit d’expliquer pourquoi et comment le basket-ball introduit en France en 1893 ne prend pied à la FGSPF qu’en 1919.

Nevertheless, none explain the circumstances of the adoption of this physical activity of American protestant origin by the FGSPF (Federation of Gymnastics an Sports of French Youth Fellowships). Basing itself on an original study of archives, some new light is shed on a bundle of letters already used by Fabien Groeninger in 2003 so as to facilitate the understanding of the topic. The aim is to explain why and how basket-ball - though introduced in France in 1893 - only got a foothold in the FGSPF in 1919.
