In June 1509, the new King of England married his brother’s widow. Years later, he would divorce her because she was not able to give him a legitimate male heir. His attempts to get the longed-for heir would lead him to marry six times. This study focuses on the character of these women, especially those among them who were revealed to have been very bold, strong, and courageous. They had some hidden power, which was the power of influence on Henry VIII, leading him to break up with Rome and lead England to the Reformation. One way or another, these women were the ones who shaped the development of the English Reformation and made England a Protestant Nation. Historians have not given them enough credit for what they did, nor did they pay them the homage they deserve. They do however remain legends as they still are alive through art and the cinema. The Tudor period is remarkable and quite rich in events which still captivate a lot of people.

En juin 1509, le nouveau Roi d’Angleterre, Henry VIII épousa la veuve de son frère, Catherine d’Aragon. Des années plus tard, il divorça d’elle car elle ne lui avait pas donné un fils héritier pour le trône. En quête de ce dernier, il eut six femmes. Ce travail s’intéresse tout particulièrement au caractère de ces femmes, dont certaines parmi elles se sont montrées d’une personnalité audacieuse, forte et courageuse, d’un pouvoir caché qu’elles exercèrent en arrière-plan : leur influence sur Henri VIII. Cela le poussa à se séparer de l’Église Catholique et à mener l’Angleterre vers la Réforme. D’une manière ou d’une autre ce sont ces femmes qui ont aidé à faire de l’Angleterre une nation Protestante. Ces femmes n’ont pas été suffisamment mises en valeur par les historiens, mais elles demeurent légendaires notamment grâce aux arts et au cinéma.
