Le glaucome est une affection oculaire résultant d’une augmentation temporaire ou permanente de la pression intraoculaire (PIO), qui entraîne une atteinte fonctionnelle du nerf optique et des cellules ganglionnaires de la rétine. Peu fréquent chez le cheval, il représente le plus souvent une complication d’une uvéite antérieure. Son développement est souvent insidieux et peut rester ignoré jusqu’à un stade avancé caractérisé par l’hydrophtalmie et la cécité. Une PIO supérieure à 30 mmHg, mesurée par tonométrie à aplanissement ou à rebond, associée à un tableau clinique évocateur est considérée comme une confirmation du diagnostic de glaucome chez le cheval. Les traitements médicaux et chirurgicaux visent à diminuer la PIO, mais le glaucome secondaire à l’uvéite récurrente équine est généralement difficile à contrôler. Cet article présente une synthèse des données cliniques, pathogéniques, diagnostiques et thérapeutiques sur le glaucome équin.
