Denunciations, an instrument in “Aryanization”?Of all of the antisemitic policies established in France, economic “aryanization” constitutes without doubt the one that was most highly publicized. This was done both to illustrate the commitment of the Vichy regime to fighting the “Jewish influence” on the national economy and also to deal with the necessity of finding candidates to acquire confiscated belongings, thus allowing- a priori- a favorable terrain for denunciations. The latter became an instrument that was fully integrated in the “aryanization” process, systematically exploited by anti-Jewish services. While denunciations provided little information and almost no knowledge that would have escaped the Commissariat général aux questions juives, their impact was real, leading the CGQJ to take special interest in the denounced individuals or belongings.
