Depuis les années 1990, les statuts de l’embryon in vitro et du fœtus mort présentent certains attributs de la liminalité, mais se reconfigurent d’une manière nouvelle. Ils s’organisent en des situations de choix institués, accordés aux différent·e·s acteur·ice·s, engendreur·se·s et professionnel·le·s. Mais la coexistence de ces statuts opposés que la liminalité rend possible (entre « quasi-enfant » et « pièce anatomique » pour le fœtus mort, entre « enfant potentiel » et résidu d’un processus biotechnique pour l’embryon in vitro) peut être source de flottements, d’inquiétudes, de tensions.

Since the 1990s, the status of the in vitro embryo and the dead foetus share certain attributes of liminality, but have been reconfigured in a new manner. They have been organised around situations of instituted choices granted to the different actors, parents and professionals involved. But the coexistence of the opposing statuses that liminality makes possible (between “quasi-child” and “anatomical element” for the dead foetus; between “potential child” and “residue of a biotechnical process” for the in vitro embryo) can be a source of uncertainty, anxiety and tension.

Seit den 1990er Jahren haben der Status des In-Vitro-Embryos und des toten Fötus bestimmte Eigenschaften von Liminalität, re-konfigurieren sich jedoch auch auf eine neue Art und Weise. Sie werden in Situationen der instituierten Wahl organisiert, die den verschiedenen Akteuren, Erzeugern und Fachleuten gewährt werden. Aber die Koexistenz dieser gegensätzlichen Zustände, die durch die Liminalität ermöglicht wird (zwischen „Quasi-Kind“ und „anatomischem Stück“ für den toten Fötus, zwischen „potentiellem Kind“ und Resten eines biotechnischen Prozesses für den in vitro-Embryo), kann eine Quelle für Unsicherheit, Angst und Spannung sein.

Pero la coexistencia de estos estatutos opuestos que la liminalidad hace posible (entre « casi niño » y « pieza anatómica » por el feto muerto, entre « niño potencial » y residuo de un proceso biotécnica por el embrión in vitro) puede ser fuente de oscilaciones, preocupaciones, tensiones.
