The koinon of Athena Ilias is a religious association of Greek cities gathered around the sanctuary of Athena Ilias in Ilion (Troy). It offers a good case study of how a religious supra-civic association could survive as it bound together different cities of different regions and origins. This civic sanctuary had a federal and regional dimension. It belonged to the city of Ilion, but the festival of the Panathenaia was administrated by all the cities of the koinon of Athena Ilias. This religious supra-civic association is mainly known by epigraphic material. The study of the nature, the organization, the ethnic and the geographic composition of this koinon gives us precious information about how politics and religion are closely linked in the ancient Greek world.

Le koinon d’ Athéna Ilias est une association religieuse regroupant différentes cités grecques autour du sanctuaire d’Athéna Ilias à Ilion (Troie). Il permet une intéressante étude de cas du fonctionnement institutionnel d’une association religieuse supra-civique réunissant des cités grecques de différentes régions (Troade, Propontide) et d’origines ethniques diverses. Ce sanctuaire civique, appartenant à la cité d’Ilion, a en effet également une dimension fédérale, dans la mesure où la panégyrie des Panathénées y est administrée en commun par les différentes cités membres du koinon. Cette association religieuse supra-civique est principalement documentée par l’épigraphie. L’étude de la nature, de l’organisation et de la composition de cette association religieuse révèle la façon dont politique et religion sont intrinsèquement liées dans le monde grec antique.
