Beyond the presupposition isolating the male of the feminine, Pierre Molinier's self-portraits claim an aesthetics of the third gender, that of the neutral. This inserting into voluntary margins underlines the ambivalence between presence and absence of the sexual cleavage. At the origin of this "between two genders", there is a liberation from sexual "normality". From the sixties, his work focuses on his very body. Dedicated exclusively to the eroticism, his self-portraits are exploited thanks to the photomontage which also breaks the possibilities inferred by the photographic medium. The photographic practice (re)positions the body as a territory to be reinvented. Worked again and treated until it appears as an idealized image of self, the body re-questions the codes of gender and, through this practice, the conflict between the identity of gender and the identity of sex of the individual. This reflection on the sexual identity actually invites to wonder about what is at stake in a body reconstructed by means of the demolition of the visual medium.

Au-delà du présupposé isolant le masculin du féminin, les autoportraits de Pierre Molinier revendiquent une esthétique d'un troisième genre, celui du neutre. Cette mise en marge volontaire souligne l'ambivalence entre présence et absence du clivage sexuel. À l'origine de cet " entre deux genres ", se tient un affranchissement de la " normalité " sexuelle. À compter des années soixante, son oeuvre se focalise sur son corps. Dédiés exclusivement à l'érotisme, ses autoportraits sont exploités grâce au photomontage qui transgresse ainsi lui aussi les possibilités induites par le médium photographique. La pratique photographique (re)positionne ainsi le corps comme un territoire à réinventer. Retravaillé et manipulé jusqu'à figurer une image idéale de lui-même, le corps réinterroge les codes du genre et, à travers elle, la discordance entre l'identité de genre et l'identité de sexe de l'individu. Cette réflexion sur l'identité sexuelle invite de fait à s'interroger sur les enjeux d'un corps reconstruit au moyen de la déconstruction du support visuel.
