In this paper, we present first our approach of text navigation conceived like a cognitive process,which exploits navigation-specific knowledge. We draw up the hypothesis that such knowledge canbe designed in a declarative way with our language Sextant. Since this language refers to textconstituents and its characteristics exhaustively, a text model specific to our approach is proposed.Second, we present the application of text navigation to the learning of French as a foreignlanguage. Hypotheses, connected to text linguistics, are exposed. Then, we describe the e-learningsystem NaviLire, built up upon the text navigation system NaviText. Experimentation withNaviLire and its results are described.
