The Homeric Hymn to Demeter, often read as an aetiology of the expectation of spring by mortals, takes on another meaning when compared to the Hesiodic myth of Pandora. It entails a questioning on expectation as a feminine mode of time relating to secrecy and secrets – those linked to a hidden body and time, to becoming a woman, to the mother-daughter relationship.
