On édite ici un sermon de Robert Holcot, frère prêcheur anglais actif dans les années 1331-1344, d’après le manuscrit 342 de la bibliothèque municipale de Toulouse. Ce discours introduit un commentaire à la Genèse qui est perdu. Il a dû être délivré dans un contexte conventuel, étant donné la diversité d’âges et d’occupations de son auditoire clérical. Il contient plusieurs traits notables que l’on peut qualifier de pré-humanistes : affirmation de la supériorité des Grecs sur les Latins, éloge de la grammaire plus que de toute autre discipline, insistance sur la narrativité de l’Écriture, admiration pour les écoles philosophiques antiques. Parmi les sources citées, plusieurs exempla proviennent des Nuits Attiques d’Aulu-Gelle.

Preserved in the manuscript Toulouse, Bibliothèque municipale 342, this academic discourse introduces a lost Genesis commentary. It must have been delivered in a conventual context, given the diversity of ages and occupations of its clerical audience. It contains several notable traits that can be described as pre-humanistic : affirmation of the superiority of the Greeks over the Latins, praise of grammar more than any other discipline, emphasis on the narrativity of Scripture, admiration for the ancient philosophical schools. Si pubblica qui un sermone di Roberto Holcot, domenicano inglese attivo negli anni 1331-1344, dal manoscritto 342 della biblioteca municipale di Tolosa. Il discorso introduce un commento al Genesi, attualmente perduto, che deve essere stato pronunciato in ambito conventuale, data la diversità di età ed occupazioni del pubblico clericale a cui è rivolto. Esso presenta delle caratteristiche che possono essere definite pre-umanistiche : affermazione della superiorità dei greci sui latini, elogio della grammatica più di ogni altra disciplina, enfasi sulla narratività della Scrittura, ammirazione per le scuole filosofiche antiche. Tra le fonti citate, diversi exempla provengono dalle Notti Attiche di Aulo-Gellio.
