Résumé 0

Born at the beginning of the 20th century, the Œuvre de secours aux enfants (OSE), was first and foremost a daughter of social hygienism, a movement of "regeneration" that affected the entire Western world. The physical development of the human being, notably through sport, was becoming increasingly important. Created to help Jewish populations excluded from social medicine, the OSE made health care its priority objective. And for health purposes, it seized upon sports practices which were previously marginal in the Jewish world. When it arrived in France in 1933, it never ceased to integrate sport into the Jewish identity, as it can be seen in the work carried out with children by Georges Loinger and Maurice Brauch, two great figures of sports education.
