The 50th anniversary of Churchill's death fostered the publication of many books both in Great Britain and France. This scientific and publishing activity partakes in a multi-faceted portrait of Churchill. My paper explores the enunciative and linguistic otherness perceptible in three books of quotations published in France between 2011 and 2014. Using a comparative approach makes it possible to analyze what brings Churchill closer to French readers or, conversely, makes him a remote figure. The degrees of cultural and linguistic proximity or remoteness are emphasized by the different editorial strategies which clearly influence the various translations of the humorous quotes.

À l'occasion du 50e anniversaire de la mort de Churchill, de nombreux ouvrages ont été publiés en France et en Grande-Bretagne. Cette activité scientifique et éditoriale contribue à la représentation d'un Churchill aux multiples facettes. Mon article aborde les aspects énonciatifs et langagiers de l'altérité inscrite dans trois recueils de citations publiés en France entre 2011 et 2014. La perspective comparatiste permet d'analyser ce qui rapproche ou, au contraire, ce qui éloigne Churchill des lecteurs français. L'éloignement ou la proximité culturelle et linguistique sont accentués par différentes stratégies éditoriales qui influencent nettement les approches traductives observées dans ces florilèges humoristiques.
