Questions et hypothèses actuelles sur l'acquisition des langues secondes et étrangères* This article attempts to present somc major tendencies in current research into languagc acquisition by examining in turn the influence which researchers have attributed to the previous experience of the language acquired through the mother longue; to the system to be acquired; to the universals of language and acquisition; and to the psychological and social context in which the learner acquires and practises the foreign language. The degrees of conscience which the subject may have or his own acquisition, the models according to which this linguistic consciousness manifests itself and the relative control which the subject can have ovcr his productions are equally evoked. A second part is devoted to particular aspects of the didactic situation and the examination of some current tendencies in language didactics.
