Paola Canova, « La frontera ganadera y sus enclaves íntimos en el Chaco Paraguayo », Anuac, ID : 10670/1.thwcyq
This article explores an imaginary of the Paraguayan Chaco as a liminal social and geographical region. This liminality is reproduced at multiple levels through transgression against nature, excess infrastructure and hypermasculine work experiences. Ranching enterprises contribute to the liminality of the region by becoming “intimate enclaves,” that is, spaces where intimate and unequal relationships between nature, humans and animals are forged, reproducing different rhythms of domination, violence and exploitation. The article delineates how these dynamics, which contribute to the expansion of the ranching frontier, manifest themselves in processes of deforestation and development of infrastructure, in the experiences of migrant workers, and in intimate relationships with indigenous women.
