This paper aims to present the details of Turkish foreign policy in the twentiethandtwenty-first centuries, as well as to highlight the importance of the concept of Neo- Ottomanism in modifying the model of acting of the Republic of Turkey intheinternational arena from the 1980s, during the government of Turgut Özal. Moreover, it will be shown how the Neo-Ottomanist idea was crucial for the expansion of Turkishgeopolitical influence in the Central Asian region, identifying the main elements that made this expansion possible.
