Αντικείμενο της παρούσας εργασίας είναι η μελέτη της ανάγλυφης πλάκας με δικέφαλο αετό στο ναό της Μεταμόρφωσης του Σωτήρος στην Καλαμαριά Θεσσαλονίκης, την οποία ταυτίσαμε με αυτήν που υπήρχε στα δυτικά τείχη της Τραπεζούντας (1324). Η πλάκα αυτή, η οποία μεταφέρθηκε από τους πρόσφυγες και εντοιχίστηκε αργότερα στο ναό της Καλαμαριάς, παρουσιάζει εξαιρετικό ενδιαφέρον από ιστορική και αρχαιολογική άποψη, όχι μόνο γιατί μπορεί να χρονολογηθεί με ακρίβεια, αλλά και γιατί συνδέεται με τον Αλέξιο Β ́ Μέγα Κομνηνό που ήταν και Παλαιολόγος από την πλευρά της μητέρας του.

The subject of the present paper is the study of the relief slab with a two-headed eagle in the church of the Transfiguration of the Savior in Kalamaria, Thessaloniki, which we have identified as that which existed on the west walls of Trebizond (1324). This slab, which was transported by refugees and later built into the church of Kalamaria, is very interesting from a historical and archaeological perspective, not only because it can be dated with precision but also because it is associated with Alexios II Komnenos, who was also from the Palaiologos family on his mother’s side.
