Reconstruit par Jean V de Créquy (capitaine de guerre, chambellan et diplomate du duc de Bourgogne, Philippe le Bon) vers le milieu du xve siècle, le château de Fressin (Pas-de-Calais) est conçu dans un premier temps comme la nouvelle résidence principale du lignage. Toutefois, les heurts guerriers du début du xvie siècle contraignent rapidement les Créquy à habiter dans leurs châteaux picards, laissant leurs possessions artésiennes au cœur des conflits entre Saint-Empire, royaumes de France et d’Angleterre. Suite à une première série d’investigations archéologiques, le château de Fressin livre de nombreux indices architecturaux et archéologiques de son adaptation au contexte militaire des xvie et xviie siècles. L’article proposé ici a pour but de préciser la manière dont ce château a été transformé au cours du temps, afin de s’adapter aux nouvelles nécessités martiales.

Reconstructed by Jean V of Créquy (captain, chamberlain and diplomat for the Duke of Burgundy, Philip the Good) towards the middle of the 15th century, the castle of Fressin (Pas-de-Calais) was originally conceived as the new main residence of the lineage. However, the warlike troubles of the early 16th century quickly forced the Créquy family to withdraw to their Picardy castles, leaving their artesian possessions at the heart of the conflicts between the Holy Roman Empire and the kingdoms of France and England. Following a first series of archaeological investigations, the castle of Fressin provides numerous architectural and archaeological insights on its adaptation to the military context of the 16th and 17th centuries. This presentation aims at clarifying how this artesian castle was transformed over time so as to respond to the ongoing evolutions in military techniques.
