Potential of Development of Major City’s Suburban Zone Потенциал развития пригородной зоны крупного города En Ru

The paper considers the features of formation and development of suburban zones and zones of major cities’ influence. The definitions of the suburban zone and the zone of city’s influence are given. The paper reviews the concepts and methods of delimitation and analysis of suburban zones, as well as models of suburban areas. Particular attention is paid to the development of the suburban zone of Kazan in the Soviet and post-Soviet periods. The results of analysis of the development potential of the suburban space of Kazan are presented. There are two aspects of its potential - the ability to effectively develop suburban agricultural production and broad access to land use for different segments of the population. It is concluded that for all problems of structural and functional transformation of the suburban space of Kazan, the economic, residential and recreational potential of development of the suburban zone of Kazan deserves high appreciation.
