Résumé 0

Introduction : Periodontal diseases are a global health concern. They are multi-stage, progressive inflammatory diseases triggered by the inflammation of the gums in response to periodontopathogens, which may lead to the destruction of tooth-supporting structures, tooth loss, and systemic health problems. Methods: Four databases were consulted: PubMed, MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Web of Science. In vitro, in vivo, and human clinical studies were considered, with a particular focus on problems related to periodontal diseases as well as halitosis, aphthous stomatitis, and mucositis (especially in the case of radiotherapy treatments for the head and neck), along with interesting statistics for depression and Alzheimer’s disease. Results: The results of this mini review indicate significant improvements after probiotic supplementation in many clinical outcomes in patients suffering from periodontal diseases. Conclusions: Probiotic supplementation improves clinical parameters and reduces the periodontopathogen load and pro-inflammatory markers in periodontal disease patients.
