Contrary to other genocidal situations, the survivors have had to live here, among their murderers. How does one exist, under such conditions, when one knows from experience, taught first by the Armenian case, then by the Holocaust, that a genocide does not end with its deeds, because of its psychological aftermath, and that therefore time does not heal, nor does it aleviate pain? The author, who has worked at length with survivors of the genocide in Rwanda, concentrates here on the problem of trauma.
