Zuerst werden die Deutschen im Habsburger Reich vorgestellt, dann der Ausgleich, den man nach dem damaligen Kontext bewerten sollte. Mit diesem Ausgleich entsteht die Doppelmonarchie, die eigentlich aus zwei unabhängigen konstitutionellen Staaten besteht; diese zwei Staaten haben nur das Staatsoberhaupt und drei gemeinsame Ministerien gemeinsam. Kein Kompromiss mit den Tschechen konnte zu Stande kommen und die angespannte Konkurrenz zwischen den zwei Völkern beschleunigte sicherlich das Ende der Doppelmonarchie. Am Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts verkörpern der Verwaltungsschalter, die Schule und der Arbeitsplatz den täglichen Kampf zwischen den verschiedenen Nationalitäten.

This article aims to present the position of the Germans in the Austro-Hungarian empire as well as the Historic Compromise, which must be put back into the context of the period. The Historic Compromise created the Double monarchy, namely two constitutionally independent states which had nothing in common aside from the chief of state and three ministers. Although an agreement was found with the Hungarians, the attempts at compromise with the Czechs throughout this period failed and weighed heavily on the future of the Double monarchy. Over the last decades of the 19th century, the national question, one the key stakes, crystallised around the issues of schools and work.

L’article se propose de présenter les Allemands dans l’empire autro-hongrois ainsi que le Compromis historique, qui doit être replacé dans le contexte de l’époque. Celui-ci crée la Double monarchie, soit deux États constitutionnellement indépendants et n’ayant en commun que le chef d’État ainsi que trois ministères. Si un accord a été trouvé avec les Hongrois, tout au long de la période, les tentatives de compromis avec les Tchèques ont échoué et ont pesé sur l’avenir de la Double monarchie. Au cours des deux dernières décennies du XIXe siècle, la question nationale, enjeu majeur, se cristallise sur le guichet, l’école et le travail.
