Παρουσιάζεται η σημερινή (2006) κατάσταση του ψηφιδωτού του μεγάλου ανατολικού τόξου της Αγίας Σοφίας, όπου απεκαλύφθη το εφ’ υγροίς ζωγραφισμένο υπόβαθρο δύο εκ των εκεί εικονιζόμενων μορφών (της Παναγίας και του Προδρόμου) μετά την σχετικά πρόσφατη – αλλά άγνωστο πότε ακριβώς- πτώση του κονιάματος των Fossati που συμπαρέσυρε και τις ψηφίδες. Τα αποκαλυφθέντα σχήματα και χρώματα των μορφών επιβεβαιώνουν τις πληροφορίες και τα σχέδια του Paul Durand, που ο συγγραφεύς είχε παρουσιάσει σε προηγούμενο άρθρο του (ΔΧΑΕ ΙΓ΄, 1998), σ. 307-313)

The present condition (2006) of the mosaics on the great eastern arch of St Sophia is presented. Recently (exact date unknown) part of the plaster with the architects Fossati brothers had covered the mosaics has fallen, resulting in the loss of tesserae hut leaving in situ the fresco layer upon which they were inserted. The figures of the Virgin and the Baptist were revealed. Their shapes and colouring confirm the accuracy of PaulDurand’s drawings and information, which the author had presented in a previous article (ΔΧΑΕΙΓ΄, 1998), pp. 307-313)
