Edoardo Weiss de retour de Vienne où il avait été analysé par Federn sous conseil de Freud commence à pratiquer la psychanalyse à Trieste. Mais la psychiatrie italienne de l’époque et son chef de file Morselli accueilleront avec grande hostilité la psychanalyse. Il faudra attendre 1971 pour que la SPI laisse émerger la question des rapports entre psychanalyse et psychiatrie en Italie. Les relations sont très conflictuelles même avec le mouvement de psichiatria democratica. L’auteur émet l’hypothèse d’une rencontre entre psychanalyse et psychiatrie ayant agi dans l’inconscient collectif comme moteur des réformes italiennes anti-asilaires.

From Vienna to Trieste – A Voyage Across Italy. Edoardo Weiss returned from Vienna where he had been analysed by Federn under Freud’s supervision and began to work as a psychoanalyst in Trieste. However, Italian psychiatry at that time, led by Morselli, gave psychoanalysis a very cold welcome. It was not until 1971 that the SPI began to accept the links between psychoanalysis and psychiatry in Italy. The relationship between the two has always been highly conflictual, even with the psichiatria democratica movement. The author of this article puts forward the idea that the encounter of psychoanalysis and psychiatry did however play an important role in the modifications that took place on the collective unconscious that led to anti mental asylum reforms in Italy.
