This article depicts how, since the late 1970s, black feminist thought has called attention to the « intersectionality » of race, class and gender oppressions in black women’s lives. It shows how this thought has poised itself as an alternative to black discourses on black patriarchy as a solution to the economic and social plight of African Americans.
