Résumé 0

This comment aims to challenge the idea that an analysis in terms of male domination would no longer allow social psychology to understand contemporary gender relations. Drawing on the materialist reflections of feminism, we show that the arguments mobilized to support this thesis are based on a questionable use of concepts drawn from gender studies. The result is a distorted understanding of how patriarchal structures function, such as: the reduction of male domination to its symbolic and psychological dimensions; the neglect of male oppressive practices and the coercive nature of the gender system; and the restriction of heterosexuality to a sexual orientation. New research perspectives in social psychology are then suggested, in continuity with current feminist work in the field of gender studies.
