Fiona Pugliese, « Nuevas reflexiones sobre el proceso de fusión de los dioses mexicas: Chalchiuhtlicue, un estudio de caso », HAL-SHS : histoire, ID : 10670/1.y4yw3c
This article seeks to investigate the concept of fusion developed by Alfredo López Austin, by ap-plying it to a particular case, that of the water goddess, Chalchiuhtlicue. Based on the icono-graphic analysis of archaeological pieces that combine attributes of Chalchiuhtlicue and other deities, a detailed study case is carried out in order to question the hypotheses already formulated about the identity of the deity represented. Therefore, a new reading is proposed based on the idea of the fusion of female deities that reflects both the common origin of the goddesses and the need for water in the vital process and water-earth-seed complementarity associated with agricultural growth, germination, and plant renovation.
