At the beginning of the 20th century, Georges Sorel proposed the idea of social myth, highlighting the irrational, emotional, imaginary components at stake in political struggles. A few years later, Fascism declared its will to exploit these very components and put into practice propaganda techniques that manipulated myths to act on the masses. Then it became urgent to seize the ways in which the imaginary, the myths and utopias, the propaganda itself, become techniques of domination.

All'inizio del Ventesimo secolo, Georges Sorel proponeva l'idea di mito sociale, mettendo in luce le componenti irrazionali, emozionali, immaginarie in gioco nelle lotte politiche. Qualche anno dopo, il fascismo dichiarò di volersi fondare proprio su queste componenti e mise in pratica delle tecniche di propaganda che manipolavano miti per agire sulle masse. Divenne allora urgente cogliere i modi e il momento in cui l'immaginario, miti e utopie, la propaganda stessa, diventano tecniche di dominazione.
