Résumé
This is the third, or possibly the fourth, time I have sat down to write an introduction to our volume about classical music. It was mostly complete by the beginning of 2020 when Covid-19 hit. As my co-editor Paul Boghossian makes clear in his Preface, our “think tank” approach to the subject had emerged from a strong sense that classical music, however it is defined, is both something of great value, and in various ways also in crisis.
