On peut parler de société « posthéroïque » de deux manières. La première caractérise un pacifisme qui croit révolu le temps des guerres. La seconde regarde la course à l’innovation technologique comme ce qui peut libérer l’homme de la condition humaine. La réalité militaire contraint de poser, par-delà l’estimation de sa performance, la question du sens de l’action.

There are two ways of talking about “post-heroic” society. The first is typical of a pacifism that believes wars are a thing of the past. The second sees the race for technological innovation as a means of setting mankind free from the human condition. The reality of military concerns obliges us to ask the question of the purpose of military action, over and beyond any consideration of its performance.
