"Old and New Perspectives on Alexander the Great's Women : Olympias". Sometimes we find behind a great man there is a great woman. If we talk about the Macedonian king Alexander the Great, this woman was his mother, Olympias. However, she lived in the shadow of her son, and the historiography has not given her the attention she deserves. Focusing on the negative actions of her life, scholars have overlooked her political role in the Macedonian court during her son’ s childhood, youth, and, especially, during his absences as well as after his death. The present paper surveys the evolution of the historiography concerning Olympias and the image created from ancient times to modern days.
