Résumé 0

Using Belgian administrative data, we investigate the impact of retirement and labour market policies on activating and maintaining people in employment. We focus on policies aimed at increasing the labour market participation of older workers through retirement incentives, on the one hand, and providing training to the unemployed to enhance their skills for employment, on the other hand. The evaluated policies affecting the public pension system and early retirement schemes are found to be effective in maintaining people in employment. Training programs have a strong and persistent effect on the job-finding rate of the unemployed after the completion of training. This effect is found to be large enough to compensate the lock-in effect of the training. JEL classification: C41, D91, H55, J14, J21, J24, J26, J64, J68
