L’article propose un nouveau point de vue sur l’opposition fameuse entre Menger et Böhm-Bawerk, présentée généralement comme une opposition entre une vision « subjectiviste » et une vision "matérialiste" du capital et de la production. A partir d’une confrontation des textes des deux auteurs, nous montrons que Böhm-Bawerk est en fait un partisan quasi-dogmatique de la conception réaliste de Menger sur la production capitalistique et de sa théorie de l’imputation des valeurs des biens de consommation à celle des biens de production. En cherchant à concilier ces deux aspects, Böhm-Bawerk révèle cependant les contradictions inhérentes à la méthode autrichienne.

This paper proposes a reassessment of the well-known opposition between Menger and Böhm-Bawerk, generally presented as an opposition between a "subjectivist" view and a "materialist" view on capital and production. Using textual evidence, we argue that Böhm-Bawerk was a quasi-dogmatic follower of Menger in the description of capitalist economy as well as in the theory of value. In fact, Böhm-Bawerk tried to reconcile a pure theory of capital founded on a realistic vision of the time structure of production, with the theory of imputation of subjective values of consumer goods to capital goods. We show that, in doing so, Böhm-Bawerk reveals the basic contradictions of the Austrian methodology. Classification JEL: B 31, B 53
