Résumé En

The aim of the lecture was to give a summary of the main recent acquisitions of Egyptological knowledge concerning cereals and agricultural practices in the Nile Valley. From 5000 B.C. onwards, Egyptian farmers cultivated Triticum dicoccum L. as « corn » spec. and rhythm of the seasons in Egypt due to the regular overflowing of the landscape during summer (since about 4000 B.C.), specific times and methods of ploughing, seeding, gathering and storing crops were improved and continued until Roman period. Furthermore, until the early beginning of pharaonic kingship, written and iconographical testimonies are good means to appraise ancient Egyptian practices thought to link agricultural habits with religious doctrine and annual ceremonies performed all over the land by the Pharaoh and for him first.
