Because I have spent half of my life living in or traveling in Greece, friends often ask me for travel advice. In addition to providing them with a list of my favorite hard-to-reach islands, obscure ouzo-palaces, and tiny museums, I tell all of them that if they travel to Greece with just one object it must be a copy of Patrick Leigh Fermor’s book Mani.
