Los herreros de Albalat (s. XII): aproximación a las actividades metalúrgicas a la luz de los testimonios arqueológicos

The metallurgical activities, and especially those dedicated to the steel industry, seem to have occupied a prominent place in the fortified settlement of Albalat (province of Cáceres) to satisfy the local demand. These activities are associated with the last period of occupation (12th century) although some indications suggest that they were already present in the previous phases. This presentation focuses on the data available for one of these workshops, going deeper into the functional interpretation of the structures discovered and trying to evaluate the informative potential of the available data, from the selection of the fuels to the approximation of the technical processes and the nature of the work carried out through the metallurgical waste.

As atividades metalúrgicas, e especialmente as dedicadas à indústria siderúrgica, parecem ter ocupado um lugar de destaque no povoado fortificado de Albalat (província de Cáceres) a fim de satisfazer a procura local. Estas atividades estão associadas ao último período de ocupação (século XII), embora algumas indicações sugerem que já estavam presentes em fases anteriores. Esta apresentação centra-se nos dados disponíveis para um destas oficinas, aprofundando a interpretação funcional das estruturas descobertas e tentando avaliar o potencial informativo dos dados disponíveis, desde a seleção dos combustíveis até à aproximação dos processos técnicos e da natureza do trabalho realizado através dos resíduos metalúrgicos.
