Du « théâtre de l’hystérie » initié par J. M. Charcot, au « théâtre du handicap » nous assistons à la mise en scène des « corps » de femmes hystériques, puis de ceux des personnes handicapées. Une impasse théâtrale sera mise en évidence en rappelant le rôle précurseur du théâtre de Sade à la Maison nationale de Charenton qui rassemblait des internés, des personnels soignants et des artistes. Un « théâtre de citoyens » demeure la seule entreprise artistique possible et non la réification du handicap au moyen de l’art.

From the “theater of hysteria” initiated by J. M. Charcot, to the “theater of disability” we are witnessing the staging of the “bodies” of hysterical women, then those of disabled people. A theatrical impasse will be highlighted by recalling the pioneering role of the Sade theater at the Maison Nationale de Charenton, which brought together internees, nursing staff and artists. A “citizens’ theater” remains the only artistic enterprise possible and not the reification of disability by means of art.
