Before killing the man, the civil war killed the writer. A major Algerian writer of the 1980s, Rachid Mimouni sacrificed literature in the 1990s on the altar of the political struggle against the Islamists. Between L'Honneur de la tribu in 1989 and La Malédiction in 1993, the delicate balance between literature and politics, which until then had characterized his work and his intellectual struggle, has been broken in favor of raw political commitment through authoritarian fiction.

Avant d’assassiner l’homme, la guerre civile a tué l’écrivain. Ecrivain algérien majeur des années 1980, Rachid Mimouni en est venu dans les années 1990 à sacrifier la littérature sur l’autel du combat politique contre les islamistes. Entre L'Honneur de la tribu en 1989 et La Malédiction en 1993, on assiste à la rupture du délicat équilibre entre littérature et politique, qui caractérisait jusqu’alors son œuvre et son combat intellectuel, au profit de l’engagement politique brut par le roman à thèse.
