Résumé
The paper deals with a secondary form of humanistic oratory: banquet’s oratory. In fact, moments of heightened commensality involved not only exceptional eating, drinking or dressing, but also a special type of oratory called orationes in convivio. After describing features, places, duration and speakers of such discourses, the paper engages a wider discussion about their social significance, as a way of setting humanist self-identity.
