Based on a study of stone beads manufacturing, this paper deals with skills involved in technical actions. It presents a plea in favor of experimental field work. Using experimental methodology, field experimentation allows for rigorous control of the parameters involved while working on everyday tasks. The authors argue that it is only that level of analysis that will give insight into the nature of action control.
