Maria Elena Del Solar et al., « The Inca Belt That Has Transcended History », Catalogue des films documentaires réalisés à la Cellule Audio/Video du Centre Edgar-Morin, ID : 10.34847/nkl.9eab1399
This short video (7 minutes) has been designed to expose to visitors to The Incas exhibition (MALI, Lima, Peru, 2023) how the weaving of a belt has been passed down for generations since the Inca period. In San Ignacio de Loyola (3,400m above sea level, Trujillo sierra, northern Peru), three generations of witnesses illustrate the enduring chain of transmission of the sara belt, with its diamond pattern divided into four quarters, and the weaving skills associated with it. At the core of our investigation lies a sample that bears the memory of the stages of the thread selection. This was put into words in 1590 by Spanish chronicler Friar Martín de Murua (1525-1618). Ahead of his encrypted message, Murua stated that these belts were worn by the Coyas, the wives of the Incas, ‘on occasion of the major festivals they called çara'.
