The German marionettist and director Frank Soehnle studied puppet theatre at the Stuttgart Highschool of Music and Performing Arts, then directed the Karlsruhe puppet theatre Marotte from 1987 to 1990 and founded the independent touring theatre Figuren Theater Tübingen with Karin Ersching in 1991. Since then, he has toured worldwide with solo plays like Nachtgesichter (1991), Flamingo Bar (1996) and salto.lamento (2006), or with plays performed in collaboration with other artists (actor Yehuda Almagor in Children of the Beast (2000) or Australian dancer James Cunningham in Liquid Skin (2005)). Figures by Frank Soehnle are often hermaphrodite beings, half-human/ half-animal or mythological, which he builds from specific materials and found objects. Among his recent productions: Hôtel de Rive (2011), Wunderkammer (2013), Das 2te Ich (2018), _night.flowers (2022).
