Beer arrived in Normandy during the second quarter of the XVth century. The first harbour where it is mentioned is Dieppe and, from there, it dwelt through all Normandy except the mouth of the Seine river without crossing it. The growing use of this beverage provoked creation of guilds and a sharp watch of the production for health and tax reasons.

C'est au cours du deuxième quart du XVe siècle que la bière fit son apparition en Normandie. Elle arriva par Dieppe et se répandit ensuite dans le reste de l'actuelle Haute-Normandie sans toutefois franchir la Seine ni s'imposer dans la Basse-Seine. Son développement entraîna la mise en place de métiers organisés et une surveillance attentive des autorités sur la production pour des raisons d'hygiène mais aussi fiscales.
