Résumé En

Xianl in spoken Mandarin is an adverb. In Cantonese sinl is a verb and a grammatical morpheme. It is multifunctional, polysémie and characterized by an unusual distributional mobility. Cantonese has developped these syntactic and semantic characteristics through natural semantic evolution, grammaticalization and borrowing, particularly from non-Han languages.
