Dans l’Occident tardo-antique, plusieurs types de textes partagent une relation intertextuelle avec le Code Théodosien, donnant naissance à une littérature juridique de « second degré ». L’étude de ce réseau intertextuel fournit le cadre dans lequel certaines spécificités des interprétations wisigothiques du Code Théodosien, qui font partie de ce réseau, sont mises en évidence. La particularité de la réécriture wisigothique des constitutions romaines est ensuite comparée à la manière dont Justinien, en Orient, retravaille les normes impériales des siècles précédents.

Several types of texts in the Late Antique West share an intertextual relationship with the Theodosian Code, giving rise to a “second degree” legal literature. The study of this intertextual network provides the background for analyzing the Visigothic interpretationes of the Theodosian Code, which belongs to the network. In turn, the specificity of Visigothic rewriting of the Roman constitutions is compared to how, in the East, Justinian reworked the imperial laws of previous centuries.
