Like the history of women in science, the history of female geographers is a complex one. We have tried to study the role of women in geography during the last 130 years, from the first International Geographical Congress (Antwerpen, 1871) to the 28th (Den Hague, 1996). As students, as researchers and as teachers, women are nowadays an integral part of geographical congresses.
