Sylvanie Godillon, « Reducing Inequalities in Accident Risk in Deprived Neighborhoods: The Success of a British Experiment », Reflets et perspectives de la vie économique, ID : 10670/1.1dd150...
In response to socio-spatial inequalities related to road risks, a trial was conducted between 2002 and 2008 in the United Kingdom. The Neighbourhood Road Safety Initiative is a specific financial support initiative to reduce the number of accidents in deprived neighborhoods. Road-safety improvement was significant. The aim of this article is to detect the mechanisms that led to that success. The method used is an investigation of technical documents (on urban renovation, road safety, and mobility) and interviews. The results show that the pedagogic and pragmatic features of the Neighbourhood Road Safety Initiative explain its success. The initiative encouraged changes in terms of selecting and implementing road-safety actions. JEL: I38
