Smartphone language self-learning applications are becoming increasingly successful. However, few works by linguists and didacticians are devoted to them. We propose to analyze the general functioning of the Duolingo application, focusing on its methodological underpinnings, the role of gaming and the consideration of the objectives and needs of the learner.

Les applications smartphones d'autoapprentissage des langues connaissent un succès croissant. Peu de travaux de linguistes et didacticiens leur sont cependant consacrés. Nous proposons d'analyser le fonctionnement général de l'application Duolingo, en nous focalisant sur ses soubassements méthodologiques, le rôle du gaming et la prises en compte des objectifs et besoins de l'apprenant.
