تعتبر الفترة الإسلامية الأولى من أعقد الفرات دراسة ني مجال البحث التاريخي للغياب شبه التام لوثائق الأرشيف والشواهد الأثرية والنصية. إن مؤرخ الأمس وباحث اليوم يعتمد بالأساس على معرفة تاريخة هي في حقيقتها نتاج مرحلة زمنية أخرى غير التي تتحدث عنها سما يجعل التعامل معها النوم في غاية الصعوبة. وتنطبق هذر الملاحظة بصفة خاصة على عمليات الحاق بلاد المغرب بالفلك السياسي والديني للاسلام الوسيط المعروفة تراثيا بفن الفتوح أين يلاحظ غياب واضح لتدوين تاريخهم عامر بالحملات العسكرية في القرن التاسع الميلادي ( ان التدوين المتأخر جمل الباحثين الكلاسيكيين ينسجون خيالات «تاريخية» اعتمادا على روايات متأخرة ويساهمون في التأسيس لقائد أسطوريط تحت في محاولة لربط المعلم بذاكرة تاريخية مشوهة ومغلوطة. لا يمكن للدارس تقبلها لتعارضها مع علم نقد النصوص والمعطيات الأثرية المتوفرة.

The early Islamic period is considered one of the most complex in the field of historical research due to the near total absence of archival documents and archaeological and textual evidence. Yesterday's historian and today's researcher rely mainly on knowledge of its history, which is in fact the product of another era. This remark applies in particular to the process of annexation of the Maghreb countries to the political and religious sphere of medieval Islam, traditionally known as the expression of the narrative of conquests. This situation actively contributes to the appearance of fantasies based on late stories. Among these accounts are those concerning the legendary Umayyad leader Abu al-Mahajar.
